Bitcoin price surged to a high of $11,000 on Monday after hitting a record $11.731 on Thursday, according to CoinDesk’s Bitcoin Price Index (BPI).
The rally in bitcoin prices coincided with a record number of daily trading volume in the cryptocurrency.
On Monday, the price of one bitcoin rose to $1138.71, a 1,000-fold increase from its opening price of $1,180.
The average daily trading price for bitcoin was $9.72.
On Friday, the bitcoin price rose to a peak of $12,000, a 24.4-fold gain from its closing price of a little more than $5.90 on July 7, 2017.
The BPI says the price reached a record in late August of $13,600.
On July 22, 2017, the BPI reported that bitcoin’s market cap had reached $1.27 trillion.
