The term “gold wing” was coined by motorcycle enthusiast George Stokes, a professor of motorcycle history at Indiana University.
He coined the term in his book “The Goldwing and the American Motorcycle: A History of the Motorcycle” in 1962.

The word “gold” in its original meaning of the gold leaf was used to designate the design element.
In addition, gold was used in the form of the number, “3,” to designate a motorcycle engine, as opposed to a single engine.
The goldwing can be compared to the Harley Davidson Goldwing because it has the same engine.
The Harley Davidson gold wing is a twin-stroke engine with a six-speed manual transmission.
But unlike the Gold Wings, the Harley- Davidson goldwing has a flat six-cylindered engine that produces 185 horsepower.
The two-cylinders are connected by a twin crank, a piston, and a camshaft.
It has a top-end torque of 160 to 200 pounds-feet, which is similar to the torque of the Honda CR-1 or Honda CRV.
The engine also has a power-to-weight ratio of about 3.6:1, which means that the engine produces about 25 percent more power than the Honda and Toyota engines.
